Launch of ‘Venture’, networking for Shropshire’s social enterprises
‘Venture’ is a new Networking group being launched on Wednesday 7th September 2011 at Atcham Memorial Hall, Atcham, Shrewsbury. This network group has been formed to bring together Social Enterprise businesses, giving them the opportunity to look at business issues, share best practice and make new contacts.
Networking is a proven way of increasing business contacts and gaining more business, Shropshire is very fortunate to have many successful network groups – far too many to mention – however Venture will be the first networking group to focus specifically on businesses who are social enterprises. A social enterprise business has at the heart of its formation an interest in achieving philanthropic goals through its work and giving back to communities. This is not to forget the things which any business concerns itself with such as marketing, accounting, HR and of course, making a profit!
The meetings will be facilitated by Jim Hawkins – who amongst other things is of course well known as a BBC Radio presenter and a budding social entrepreneur himself and highly supportive of anything which gives back to the community. The organisation and planning of the meetings will be undertaken by Beyond Brilliance CIC; both they and Jim will be giving their time voluntarily.
Jim Hawkins commented ‘ Taking time out from the work place to share business concerns, can help to move your social enterprise business forward and you’ll hear from other business people how they overcame barriers. We want Venture to promote and encourage even more support for these businesses as well as the voluntary and community sector as a whole.’
‘This network group will meet every month giving businesses the chance to grow, and hear from some really inspirational people who will be visiting the group in the forthcoming months’
Venture has attracted a small pot of funding from the Community Council of Shropshire and the ‘Growing SE in West Midlands Project’, so this launch event is free of charge and there will be refreshments – so booking is essential. There will be a small charge at future network meetings.
Nicky Kent, Social Enterprise Business Outreach Coach at the Community Council of Shropshire said “I am delighted that a Social Enterprise Network is starting up in Shropshire; these are both difficult and exciting times so there is no better time for social enterprises to network, gather support and find synergy in the work that we all do.”
