I’ve been talking for a living for more than thirty years.
I’ve presented programmes for BBC Radio 4, BBC GLR and the Capital Radio Group, and for other BBC and commercial local stations. I was Senior Broadcast Journalist at BBC Radio Northampton. I’ve read the news for Virgin Radio and for BBC local radio regional shared programmes.
I won a Silver Sony Radio Award in 2002 for Century FM’s drivetime show, and was nominated in the 2006 Sony Radio Awards for Speech Broadcaster of the Year.
Since 2003 I have presented the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Shropshire, helping to shape a new style of interactive broadcasting and engage a key audience at a crucial time of day. With more than fifty thousand loyal listeners, the Jim Hawkins show is a fixture of Shropshire’s media landscape. Topical, listener-focused and highly interactive, it’s essential listening for anyone who cares about what’s happening in Shropshire, and further afield.
As a voiceover artist, I’ve been the voice of everything from training tapes for Tyne & Wear Fire And Rescue Service, to a CD of children’s bedtime stories.
